A TULIP AND THE STAR      -       BY WILLOWDOWN

Tulip,
What are you clutching in your tiny hand? I can see its light shining through your delicate fingers.
Is it a dew drop, full of pearly light?

Is it a piece of the moon that has slowly settled to earth after falling through perfumed space?
Is it a crystal of ice from beyond the North Pole where the coloured witches hold mad revels in the sky?
No, no, it shines like a tiny star, it's shimmering brilliance staining your fingers with cool  white radiance.

Is it perhaps a piece of the ocean that some mischievous wind has lifted up and carried inland to thoughtlessly abandon on
the forest floor amongst the golden shadows and fallen leaves?
There is a smell of the sea about it, I think, but the smell of love and sorrow also,
beautiful with the slow passage of time.

Let me see, little Tulip, open your delicate hands and let me see your treasure -
I will not steal it, I merely wish to satisfy my curiosity.
Image

Why, it is a tear!
A solitary silver tear, fallen from some mortal's eye.
How clever of you to find it, little Tulip.
Of course I shall keep it a secret,
otherwise all the other flowers will want to have one too.
Goodbye Tulip, thankyou for sharing your secret with me!

MY GOOD FRIEND "MR PETER CROSSLAND" WROTE THIS QUITE A LONG TIME AGO. HE WRITES UNDER THE NAME OF "WILLOWDOWN" AND HIS POEMS ARE BEAUTIFUL AND PRINTED.

FLOWERSFLOWERSFLOWERSFLOWERS

Tulips - Tulips - Tulips

The tulip season begins in March and lasts until August with several shows held across the country, but the flowers are undoubtedly at their most spectacular at this time of year.  The cultivation of flower bulbs began more than 400 years ago and today Holland produces more than nine billion bulbs every year, of which two thirds are exported overseas.  Evenly distributed, this number would allow for almost two flower bulbs for every person on the planet.

This year the festival is from 17 April 2015 - 5 May 2015

Holland’s longest tulip route can be found in the Noordoostpolder in Flevoland. Over 100km through nearly 2500 acres of colourful fields make this one of the world’s most beautiful routes. Windmills, wooden shoes and colourful fields filled with tulips. That is how Holland looks on a postcard. Spring in Holland is marked by flowers and flower bulbs. The most famous places are Keukenhof and the flower-bulb region but Flevoland is not as well-known even though it boasts Holland’s longest and most colourful tulip route in the Noordoostpolder!

The Tulip Route is marked by signs so it makes for an easy drive. You will pass through many wonderful tulip fields and have the opportunity to enjoy countless activities. Pick your own tulips at the Tulip Picking Garden, for instance, and stop to discover products made in the Noordoostpolder at several farms. You can also admire several gorgeous farm gardens lush with spring bulbs, unique plants and lovely arbours.

HISTORY 0F THE NETHERLANDS IN 5 MINUTES

WIND MILLA very quick (and necessarily incomplete) overview over 5000+ years of history of the Netherlands, intended for an international audience. It has a slightly geographical bias due to the audience the film was originally made for.

If you think some things are missing or presented unbalanced: please post a film that discusses that part of Dutch history in greater detail. I left out a lot of important things, because the goal was a quick and dirty introduction. Further information is to be found elsewhere on the internet.

Music:

Keukenhof

   Netherlands

The best place to see tulips in Holland is Keukenhof. Keukenhof is a park with 7 million flower bulbs surrounded by tulip fields.

Holland? Or the Netherlands? And what’s the difference between the two? The Netherlands is  often referred to as Holland. Nevertheless, the official name of the country is the (Kingdom of the) Netherlands. The Netherlands consists out of twelve provinces. Two of them, North and South Holland, are the two provinces that together make Holland. Due to the maritime and economic power of these provinces in the 17th century, the Netherlands became known worldwide as Holland. To make matters even more confusing the inhabitants of the Netherlands are called Dutch.

But now I think it's time for some tunes for the very young so Mum can get on with the housework while you have fun singing along with them. xxx

Wow I bet you didn't sit through the whole lot, if you sang along with them all you must be so thirsty that you need a nice long drink of WHAT!

I like Tea, Peter likes Coffee, NuNu likes Milk and I like Tea. Did you see the cows in the video, eating lots of green grass to make lovely milk for everyone.
